"Keep Your Lamps Trimmed and Burning: Waiting for Surprises in Dark Times" with Andrea Baker Dean

In this talk, Andrea Baker Dean will look to a parable recounted in Christian scriptures and to the poetry of Denise Levertov to explore how to keep showing up, and how to look for love and beauty in the midst of dark times. Baker Dean is passionate about strengthening communities of courage and growth, and has done so in both nonprofit and congregational settings. She is currently marketing and events coordinator at the Center for Social Change in Miami.

At UU Miami, we encourage spiritual and ethical exploration, education and dialogue. Our liberal faith community celebrates diversity, dignity and the rights of each and every person, and encourages the pursuit of personal and world peace. Respecting and protecting the Earth in all her bounty is among our revered principles.

We encourage you to visit with us for worship; together we commit to promoting compassion, justice, and peace in our community and in the world.

Our Unitarian Universalist Principles

There are seven principles which Unitarian Universalist congregations affirm and promote:

  • The inherent worth and dignity of every person;
  • Justice, equity and compassion in human relations;
  • Acceptance of one another and encouragement to spiritual growth in our congregations;
  • A free and responsible search for truth and meaning;
  • The right of conscience and the use of the democratic process within our congregations and in society at large;
  • The goal of world community with peace, liberty, and justice for all;
  • Respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part.
