"Affirmation in Action" - Rev. John S. Smith

UUs are not always as inclusive and affirming, as loving and caring and peaceful as we propose to be. An affirmation read in some churches may include the repetition of words that are not embraced by all. Join us for this service to learn how you can choose to put our affirming words and thoughts into action.

Bio: The Reverend John S. Smith is currently serving part-time at the Beverly Unitarian Church on the "Southside" of Chicago. Ordained by the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Boca Raton, FL in September 2016, Rev. Smith remains active in the Navy Chaplain Reserves.

At UU Miami, we encourage spiritual and ethical exploration, education and dialogue. Our liberal faith community celebrates diversity, dignity and the rights of each and every person, and encourages the pursuit of personal and world peace. Respecting and protecting the Earth in all her bounty is among our revered principles.

We encourage you to visit with us for worship; together we commit to promoting compassion, justice and peace in our community and in the world.

Our Unitarian Universalist Principles

There are seven principles which Unitarian Universalist congregations affirm and promote:

  • The inherent worth and dignity of every person;
  • Justice, equity and compassion in human relations;
  • Acceptance of one another and encouragement to spiritual growth in our congregations;
  • A free and responsible search for truth and meaning;
  • The right of conscience and the use of the democratic process within our congregations and in society at large;
  • The goal of world community with peace, liberty, and justice for all;
  • Respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part.
