March 2013

The Rev. Wendy Pantoja

Wow! The congregation has just decided to go to two worship services each Sunday in order to accommodate our growing congregation. Already the worship services, led by our multi-ministerial staff, are enriched by accomplished Miami musicians of diverse spiritual and cultural backgrounds. Both our adult and children’s choruses are often invited to appear in various venues throughout Florida and will soon be featured in an upcoming General Assembly. Our paid membership coordinator has been working with our Membership and Social Life Committees to ensure our members stay connected in this new way of “doing church.”

Our children’s Sunday School, led by a full time Director of Religious Education and supported by a robust Religious Education Committee, has grown to one hundred, twenty of them youth. Most of these young people attend on a regular basis and often bring friends. Going to two services will certainly alleviate the overcrowding conditions of late.

The Adult Religious Enrichment Program has made UUCM a hub of spiritual development not only for its members but also for the surrounding community. Its prospectus consists of numerous classes led by our ministers and volunteers.  And let’s not forget our well known lecture series. It has attracted notable speakers and most sessions are sold out within two months of announcing them.

Our social justice endeavors include partnerships with various diverse religious communities and community organizations. Not only do we get out into the community with our activism but we also host forums on urgent concerns. Our paid Director of Social Justice sure does a formidable job!

Our grounds have never looked better and our buildings have never been in better shape thanks to our paid custodial staff and numerous volunteers. The bricks of our Friendship Walk represent just about every current member of UUCM and many from the past. Going onto our campus is like entering our own little paradise.

Yes, the commitment and engagement of our members has made this congregation a thriving and vibrant center of religion and spirituality, spreading the good news of Unitarian Universalism throughout Miami. I . . .

“Ah, Ellery... do you think we can count on you raising your pledge by at least one or two percent?”

“Oh, I’m sorry.  After all the celebrating we have been doing of our past, I let my mind wander into the future and it sure looks good. And you know what?”

“What?”

“I’m going to help build that future. I will raise my pledge by five percent for the year 2013-2014.”

“Thank you so much for your generosity. With such great stewardship from you and everyone else, we can build any future we want. Thanks, buddy.”

En paz y fe,
Rev. Wendypaz
