The UU Miami Choir

Under the direction of Dr. Frank Ragsdale, our choir is made up of enthusiastic avocational singers with varying levels of musical training. We welcome any and all interested in making a joyful contribution provided they attend at least one Thursday night rehearsal. Our musical selections range in style from Renaissance to Broadway, and including every style we can think of in between. 

          Rehearsals    Thursdays 7:30-9:30 p.m.
          Warm-up      Sundays 10:15-10:50 a.m.
          Service         Sundays 11:00-12:15 p.m. 


Music & Choir Director: Frank Ragsdale

Frank Ragsdale Sm Dr. Frank Wayne Ragsdale is an Associate Professor of Voice at the University of Miami Frost School of Music where he earned a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in 2004. He has had success teaching a variety of styles of voice including classical, music theatre, pop, rock, and country. In 2014, while teaching at Oklahoma City University, he was awarded the university Full-time Faculty Excellence in Teaching Award, for which he was also a finalist in 2008.

 Dr. Ragsdale’s students have gone on to graduate programs at some of the most prestigious vocal programs and to young artist programs and opera companies across the country. Hi students have also been signed by agents and hired by some of the top theaters in the country including on Broadway.

Dr. Ragsdale has had a long and varied performing career in opera, oratorio, musicals, plays, and recitals throughout the United States, Canada,    Australia, Europe, South Africa, the Middle East, and Central America where he was invited by the U.S. Embassies of Costa Rica and Honduras to give recital tours and master classes. Dr. Ragsdale is on the voice faculties of the University of Miami Frost School of Music and the University of Miami Frost School of Music at Salzburg. He is also the National Association of Teachers of Singing National Music Theater Competition Liaison and the Music Director at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Miami.

  

Pianist, Joseph Talleda

Pianist and collaborative artist Dr. Joseph Talleda joined UU Miami in the spring of 2015. His diverse experience includes recital appearances, opera productions, choral events, and much more. He has been privileged to perform with seasoned professionals as well as student musicians. Among the more notable performers with whom he has shared the stage are violinist  Glenn Basham, flutist Robert Billington, and tubist J. Samuel Pilafian. He has also acted as collaborative artist for many student recitals and served as pianist for the University of Miami's Collegium Musicum, Recital Chorale, Women’s Chorale and Men’s Chorale.

Currently, Dr.Talleda is on the adjunct faculty roster at MiamiDade College, where he teaches class piano and has also taught fundamentals of music and music appreciation. In the 2014-2015 school year, he was actively involved in the musical life of the Kendall Campus of Miami-Dade College as accompanist for its Chamber Singers, Women’s Choir, and Men’s Choir. Also in the 2014-2015 season, Dr.Talleda and Kendall Campus head of keyboard studies K. Wayne Bumpers premiered the piano duet Variations on Amazing Grace by local AfroAmerican composer James Ford.

Joseph studied with Louis Nagel at the University of Michigan, with Boris Berman, Peter Frankl, and Claude Frank at the Yale School of Music, with Eckart Sellheim and Caio Pagano at Arizona State University, and with Paul Posnak and J. B. Floyd at the University of Miami. He was an apprentice vocal coach at the 1997 Merola Opera Program and a seminarian in vocal coaching and accompanying at the 1993 Tanglewood Music Center.
